Boca Juniors, who were very erratic in the first half, woke up in the second and scored a 3-0 win over Deportes Tolima of Colombia in La Bombonera stadium, taking the lead in Group G of the Copa Libertadores on Tuesday.

Tolima’s striker Marco Perez started the scoring with an own goal header in the 48th minute, but then Boca got lively and Dario Benedetto scored the 2-0 in the 56th minute and Mauro Zarate the final 3-0 in the 60th.

However, Boca was very nervous, imprecise and inexpressive during the first half.

The visitors, despite pulling back and betting on counter-attacks, were stronger and more confident than their opponents at the start of the game.

Boca Juniors were saved twice in the first ten minutes. Omar Albornoz, after two minutes, had a clear chance, but his shot was deflected.

Six minutes later, the post prevented Danovis Banguero from opening the scoring for the visitors.

Perez’s own goal, minutes after the start of the second half, completely changed the dynamics of the match and forced Deportes Tolima to push ahead on the pitch.

Shortly afterward, Benedetto took advantage of the spaces and headed the 2-0.

The advantage seemed to give more confidence to Boca Juniors, who four minutes later scored the third, after a great counterattack. The scorer was Zarate, who scored with superiority after an assist from Carlos Tevez and a brilliant individual action from Sebastian Villa.

For the rest of the match, Boca Juniors kept control of the ball and Deportes Tolima were powerless.

Tolima’s Carlos Robles was sent off after a red card for a violent foul in the last minute of the match.

On Thursday, the other two members of Group G, Bolivians Jorge Wilstermann and Brazilians Atletico Paranaense, will face each other.

Boca Juniors currently lead the group with four points, followed by the Colombians with three, the Bolivians with one and Brazilians with no points.

On matchday 3, Boca Juniors will visit Atletico Paranaense on Apr. 2 and Deportes Tolima will host Jorge Wilstermann the following day.
