Music phenomenon Rosalia is creating a stir in Las Vegas prior to this week’s Latin Grammys, where she is nominated in five categories.

Her particular fusion of flamenco and the urban genre has made her a notable contender in this year’s awards, which are to be presented on Thursday evening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The only performer who has been nominated for more golden gramophones than Rosalia is Colombia’s J Balvin, who is up for eight.

But before the grand gala, at which she is scheduled to perform, the 25-year-old artist has been making a splash in Las Vegas in recent days, where her name is circulating constantly among journalists, artists and music executives who are still surprised by her success.

“I think she has a unique color. I think she also represents fresh blood and ... the hard-working people of Spain who dream, who do not give up,” the Colombian, who invited Rosalia to participate with him on his single “Brillo,” told EFE on Tuesday.

“And I think it’s always necessary to have the newest generations and more women in the business,” he added.

Rosalia is competing in the categories of record of the year, song of the year, best urban fusion performance, best alternative song and best short form video.

Singer Kany Garcia, who is up for four Latin Grammys, placed Rosalia within a generation of young singer-songwriters, including Rozalen and Mon Laferte, who, in her opinion, are spearheading a change in the Hispanic music scene.

“They are all women with very interesting music packages and I love it,” she said.
