Donovan Mitchell returned from an ankle injury and provided a big offensive lift for the Utah Jazz , who snapped a four-game losing streak with a 117-102 win over the Dallas Mavericks .

The Jazz essentially put Wednesday night’s game away in the first half, outscoring the visiting Mavericks 68-45 prior to the intermission at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.

Center Rudy Gobert scored 15 points over the first two quarters and point guard Ricky Rubio added nine assists to lead the way for Utah in the early going.

Nearly all of Gobert’s points came on alley-oop dunks or other shots at very close range.

Mitchell then caught fire after halftime, scoring 15 of his team-high 23 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Gobert finished with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and four blocked shots; Rubio ended his night with 10 points and 12 assists.

Star 19-year-old rookie Luka Doncic had a game-high 24 points for the Mavericks, but he was quiet down the stretch and scored just two points after the 3:07 mark of the third quarter.

The Jazz (5-6) will try to improve their record to .500 when they host the Boston Celtics on Friday night.

The rebuilding Mavericks (3-8) will next take on Russell Westbrook and the red-hot Oklahoma City Thunder - winners of six straight after an 0-4 start to the season - on Saturday night in Dallas.
