Paranaense wins 2-0 at home, on way to reach Copa Sudamericana final

Atletico Paranaense beat fellow Brazilian Fluminense 2-0 in Curitiba on Wednesday, in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana and is now the favorite to advance for the first time in their history to the final of the continental tournament.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Renan Lodi and extended it in the 77th minute by the header Rony.

The Curitiba outfit, who reached the semi-finals after eliminating another Brazilian team, Bahia, in the quarter-finals, will attempt the feat of reaching the final when they visit Fluminense on Nov. 28 in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro for the second leg, who reached this stage after leaving Uruguay’s Nacional on the road.

The winner of the duel between the two Brazilian teams will meet a Colombian team in the final of the Copa Sudamericana, to be decided on Nov. 8 in the other semifinal of the tournament, between Colombians Santa Fe and Junior Barranquilla, playing their first leg.
