Harbor City Narbonne appeared unstoppable heading into the City Section Division I championship game Saturday night at El Camino College.

The top-seeded Gauchos (14-0) looked the part early but had to withstand a furious second-half comeback to defeat Los Angeles Dorsey, 42-34, for their third straight City title and seventh under Coach Manuel Douglas.

Jalen Chatman could do no wrong in the first half, completing 18 of 19 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns while setting the school touchdown record as the Gauchos built a 29-7 lead.

He finished with 316 yards while leading his team to its 27th straight win.

Tre Walker had 10 receptions for 152 yard and two touchdowns. He caught an 18-yard strike from Chatman and ran for the two-point conversion to give Narbonne a 22-7 lead midway through the second quarter.

After Dorsey turned the ball over on downs at its 34-yard line, Walker caught his second touchdown pass with 37 seconds left in the first half.

Stephon Robinson capped Narbonne’s first drive, an 11-play, 86-yard march, with a 12-yard touchdown catch. On the Gauchos’ next possession, he caught a 35-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.

The second-seeded Dons (10-4) responded with an 11-play, 76-yard drive, capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jerman Gotoy to tight end Isaiah Smalls on the first play of the second quarter.

Narbonne was poised to score again on its third possession, but linebacker Kamron Brown punched the ball out of the hand of Kameron Denmark just before he crossed the goal line and Marquette Jackson recovered in the end zone for a touchback.

Dorsey drove 65 yards in 13 plays to open the second half, ending on a four-yard touchdown pass from Gotoy to Smalls that pulled the Dons with 29-14.

Dorsey controlled the ball for over 10 minutes in the third quarter while outgaining the Gauchos, 123 yards to one.

Jarell Mickens caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Gotoy to trim Narbonne’s lead to 29-21 on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Jordan Wood caught a 31-yard touchdown pass to pull Dorsey within 29-27 with 9:38 left, but AJ Luuga and Dominic Peterson wrapped up Gotoy on the two-point conversion.

Robinson caught a 33-yard touchdown pass with 7:50 left to give Narbonne breathing room, then Peterson recovered a fumble by Gotoy in the end zone to extend the Gauchos’ lead to 42-27 with 6:33 remaining.

Jonathan Amantine’s two-yard run cut Dorsey’s deficit to 42-34 with 3:30 left.
